As far back as 1235 "Plawe" – which means "rafting town" – received its town charter. The old part of town is still dominated by the half-timbered and brick houses of the farmers. Plau am See is also known as the "town of the three towers". The castle tower, church tower and lighthouse offer a fantastic view of the town and Lake Plau.
Plau am See
The charming little town, with its attractive old part of town, is on the western shore of Lake Plau and the Müritz-Elde waterway.
Lake Plau
The slightly hilly area around Plau am See, with its quiet forests and lakes, is a true natural paradise. Lake Plau is 38 km² in size and is an ideal location for water sports. The place is a paradise for motorboat drivers, sailors, divers and swimmers. And last but not least there are the many anglers who, from in the water or on the land, enjoy their hobby of fishing.
