The town on the Müritz-Elde waterway, also called "Gateway to Lewitz", is surrounded by lots of forests, meadows, ponds and a lake. This gives the visitor lots of opportunities to take part in recreational activities in an area that is pretty in every season.
Neustadt-Glewe
The pretty harbour town on the River Elde is also called the "Gateway to Lewitz". Its mediaeval fortified castle from the 13th century, the new castle, the church built in the brick Gothic style and the nearby hunting lodge of Friedrichsmoor are always worth a visit
Mediaeval Castle
The landmark of the town is the castle. It is a historic monument from the 13th and 14th century. It towers over the town with its fortified castle tower and defensive shield wall and so attracts the attention of visitors.
New Castle
The New Castle, located on the Elde, was begun in 1618 as a two-storey three-wing complex and completed in 1720. Built in the style of Classicism, the building is has extremely valuable Italian stucco decorations, which means it is of great cultural and historical significance. There is a hotel with a restaurant in the castle.
Lake "Neustädter See"
The lake called Neustädter See is a rarity in the southwestern part of our state; it originated in the post-glacial period as a "cave-in lake" via washed out salt deposits. Its shallow, sandy beaches are bathing beaches that have become a well-known and popular recreational area.
