Today, Hagenow has been lovingly restored and maintained and is characterised by water and greenery and the red brick architecture. Hagenow is only a few minutes away by car from Schwerin and Ludwigslust and offers visitors some special places of interest, such as the Old Synagogue, and some insights into the typical life in the Mecklenburg countryside.

The town north of the Griesen area is seen a perfect example of a Mecklenburg country town.
Old Synagogue
Since 2001, the municipal buildings of the old Jewish community have belonged to the Museum of the Town of Hagenow. The interior of the synagogue, built in 1828, was destroyed in 1938; but the buildings are still intact. The buildings were restored from 2004 to 2009. Besides a permanent exhibition on the history of Jewish life in Westmecklenburg and Hagenow, there are also changing exhibitions and diverse events.
Everyday culture in the Griesen area
"Stelln's sik blot vör...!" Anyone who goes to see the statue of Fru (Frau) Püttelkow (the fictional owner of a men's clothing shop) at the "Fiek'n Brunnen" fountain will always get the latest news of the town. Fru Püttelkow is a fictional character from a song dating back to 1982 and sung by the band "De Plattfööt". Since then, she has become a real Mecklenburg cult. She and the maid "Fiek'n" (Little Sophie) represent life in Hagenow and the region. Visitors can find out about life and work in Hagenow at the Museum für Alltagskultur der Griesen Gegend ("Museum for Everyday Culture in the Griesen Area") near the town church.
